Maple Burl is such a beautiful wood, from the texture on the outside of the burl cap to the wood grain. Building on the woods natural beauty Russell turned a row of shallow rings around the top of the piece. With this piece he chose to keep some of the texture on the outside of the vessel. Don't worry though, he did take the sharp points off.
